Sea Bird Census
While on sailing activities, one student was required to "sit a watch" counting and identifying sea birds, noting their location, date, time and behaviour. ES classes repeated this activity from 1997 to 2005. These fall and spring records served as indicators of changes to bird environments. Students were given key to identify birds and a tally sheet with dates, times, observer and locations shown on a small scale map of the sailing area.. The tally sheets were passed from one watch to the next so that a total tally was assembled at the end of each day of sailing.
