Data logged Environmental Conditions
In 1996 ES class acquired three one channel and 3 four channel Hobo Dataloggers. We were able to use these loggers for a number of purpose. These were able to record temperatures, water depth, relative humidity and watts each with a time and date signature. Students set up the parameters and installed these data loggers in many different locations to gather information related to various studies.
We were able to determine that hourly winter temperatures at Cowley Lake were an average of 6 degrees colder than the Whitehorse weather station. We also demonstrated a greater summer diurnal varriation with summer temperatures an average of four degrees colder at 5 am and degrees warmer at 2 pm. This in turn affected freeze up and break up dates on the lake and ice thickness on Cowley Lake compared to Chadburn Lake.
