Porter Creek is quite unique. It begins in a series of springs, flows about five kilometers through a subdivision into a lake which exfiltrates. The lower water shed of Porter Creek flows next to the Super A Store on the Alaska Highway, past Versluice Medowds, under Holly Street and into Hidden lake which drains through the bottom to appear as a number of seeps flowing into the Yukon River. Over the past twenty years, Porter Creek and Hidden Lake have undergone considerable change.
Hidden Lake in located in the middle of an urban park area. Porter Creek begins in a set of springs, flows along a fairly remote valley, then along side the Alaska Highway, past the Super A store, around Versluice Meadows, under Holly Street emptying into Hidden Lake. Hidden Lake exfiltrates (drains out through the ground) into the Yukon River. Over the past twenty years, Hidden Lake has been filling with sediments affecting the exfiltration rates. The Hidden Lake Green Belt is adjacent to three schools, of Porter Creek High School.
