ES Weather Station
ES classes have installed weather stations first at F H Collins then another at Wood Street. In 1995 through to 2005 these weather stations provided ES classes with weather information that we were able to contrast local reading with taken at the Airport weather station. This in turn required calibration of the station, keeping an ongoing record (our second station logged hourly readings of temp, RH, wind velocity and direction for a period of seven days). Location of the station also raised a number of concerns. If placed on the roof of the school, we measured heat loss as well as ambient temp. If located near the ground, questions of security became an issue. We placed the station on a five meter pole at the edge of the playground. We were able to download the logged information through a wireless connection.
