Students have been conducting a survey of lake and pond levels referenced from a reference level set up on the rail bed. Measurements, using a split bubble level, have been taken 2 to four times a year at different seasons.
Observations, recorded in the data base show periods when the lake level was dropping then a dramatic rise of more than a meter in the lake level.
The bathometric analysis and the lake level observations, contribute to an overall understanding of the water balance of the lake. Questions about ground water contributions, evaporate-transpiration and precipitation have yet to be completely understood.
