Biologists studying frogs use toe clipping as a method for identifying individuals. This involves cutting toes off in specific patterns to identify individuals. ES was unwilling to cut toes of frogs finding the process to be unethical. Instead we used a process developed by Lee Manell. This method placed captured frogs in clear acrylic water filled boxes . The frogs nestle into a corner of the box. Their backs are clearly visible. Photos of the back are taken, Each frog has a unique pattern on their backs. The photos show each individual.
