Changing Atmospheric Pressure with Elevation
Atmospheric pressure decreases with increased elevation. Also, temperature generally falls with a rise in elevation. This temperature change is refereed to as the lapse rate. As ES classes drive out of Skagway up to the summit over about 20 kilometers, students record barometric pressure with elevation and temperature. We stopped at four locations with known elevations. The data collected demonstrated a number of principles described in the Geography course. |
